Nature Study: Water Water Everywhere!

Back on May 4th, we enjoyed another awesome homeschool Nature Study class called Eco-Crew Professor H2O at the Latta Nature Center & Preserve.

In this study, the kids got to explore the properties of water & learn about the water cycle! Because Latta is located right on Mt. Island Lake, they also got to conduct a coupla experiments ON the lake water…

Experiencing the Water Cycle! Each child got a chance to roll the die & discover  which part of the water cycle they would be a part of! When they reached their station, they took a bead to resemble that part of the water cycle…

Lawrie couldn’t get around the water cycle fast enough! LOL

Lotsa kids collecting their water cycle beads…

Once they were done, their collection of beads turned into a cool bracelet! 😉

Lawrie’s group (lower elementary) down by the lake…

Sammi’s group (upper elementary) learn about different water quality testing procedures…

Learning more about the properties of water & about the LAKE water!

Testing the pH level

Reading the pH level… (They look so intent, don’t they? LOL)

Testing the dissolved oxygen level…

Getting a temperature reading…
They caught a fish while searching for lake inhabitants!

(Lawrie most liked playing in the mud!)

A little keepsake…

…to add to our collection! 😉

The kids had so much fun… and I was thrilled to even hear Sammi quote one of the Bible verses she’s memorized this year to her Field Guide while they were at the lake… “…if anyone is thirsty let him come to me and drink.” ~John 7:37

Ever the comedienne, she quickly added, “But Jesus doesn’t serve lake water!” LOL

  1. Looking at these pictures brought back many memories of my earlier days of home-schooling.

  2. Aren’t these things FUN!!! Kids need to be outdoors, observing God’s amazing handiwork – and learning from it and learning to appreciate their Creator!

  3. Looks like fun!
LOVE that Sammi quoted a verse she learned… don’t moments like that just squeeze your heart??
AND hilarious about the lake water line! 🙂
