A Quick Trip Back in Time…

For starters, I apologize to you guys for the delay in posting… In spite of Danny’s job loss, we have been unusually busy. Lawrie’s playing baseball {courtesy of his Grandparents & Aunt Nikkie,) Sam’s been taking Archery lessons {courtesy of Aunt Shelly, } and we decided to participate in 2 new {free!} activities as part of our homeschooling this year… a weekly P.E. class at a local rec center and a weekly Fine Arts class at a local Church! Whew!

As you read last time I got around to posting, we celebrated Sam’s big TENTH birthday with our family the night before her birthday.

There was a reason for that…

The next day… her birthday… I had a special little outing planned for just the two of us!

We would head up to beautiful Asheville to tour the magnificent Biltmore House! And as a special surprise, I arranged for her to take her first ever horseback ride on the Biltmore gounds!?!

This was just TOO perfect for my Downton Abbey-lovin’, horse-obsessed tweenager! {The Biltmore House was built and occupied by the Vanderbilts during the same time period that Downton is set in…}  😉

We had an amazing time. We arrived at about 10 am and toured the house first! We ate lunch in the Stable Cafe… and then it was time for the surprise horse ride! After that, we toured the Winery and enjoyed supper at the Bistro. Here are a few shots from our wonderful day…

The Stables

Sam takes a coupla pictures from the balcony while we toured the house.

We lounged on the balcony for a few minutes… {Read in an English accent, ‘cuz that’s how we were talking at the moment! LOL}

Sam on the balcony. {You can’t take pictures on the inside of the house… bummer…}

Lunch at the Stable Cafe… inside what were originally the Estate’s Stables

She looks like a pro already!

And away we go!

It was thrilling to be roaming the Biltmore grounds the way the Vanderbilts might have…

Beautiful sunflowers were blooming up at Antler Hill Village!

And this gorgeous sunset was what Biltmore sent us back home with…

I was so thrilled that Danny & I were able to give Sam this memorable experience for her 10th birthday! It was such a blessing to spend an entire day with just my “big girl” and step back in time, exploring a part of history that we both adore. ♥

  1. If you ever go back, I highly recommend having afternoon tea at the Inn on the grounds.
